Jan Nowicki fought alongside the Ottomans during the Ottoman-Russian War (1877-1878) and settled in Polonezköy (Adampol) in 1881.. Jan married Joze'fa Kempka who was a member of one of the most distinguished families in the town. The then ambassador helped in presenting them with the land as a wedding gift on which the Polka Country Hotel now stands. In 1905, Jan's son Wincenty Nowicki laid the foundations for the Polka Country Hotel. This one-story building which consisted of a house and a barn was built using chestnut wood. In 1948, Wincenty Nowicki added another floor and hence, the building took the architectural shape which exists today. |
